How MYSOVA works
What clocking in is, and how MYSOVA counts your XP
By Pavel Vassiltsenko, founder ·
Short answer
A clock-in is how MYSOVA records that you went somewhere. You open the app at a bar, pub or club and hold the clock-in button, and MYSOVA's server checks that your phone is within the venue's radius, 75 metres by default [1][2]. Each clock-in earns XP. At most venues it starts from 25 XP. The zone you are in multiplies it by 1.1× to 1.5×, and a two-hour stay adds 150 XP before multipliers when you clock out [1][3][4].
What happens when you clock in
The app sends your location with the clock-in, and the server measures your distance to the venue. Too far, and the clock-in fails [2]. A few rules shape a night:
- One venue at a time. Clock out of one venue before you clock in at the next [2][5].
- Travel speed. If your next clock-in is more than half a kilometre from your last one, and the trip since that clock-in works out faster than 25 km/h, the app records the clock-in but pays no XP for it [2].
- The night. A MYSOVA night runs from 08:00 to 07:55 the next morning, London time. Every per-night rule below counts within that window [6].
The XP on one clock-in
The server builds each clock-in from up to three lines, and the app lists them on a receipt [1]:
| Line | Base XP | When you get it |
|---|---|---|
| Venue | 25 at most venues; 50 or 100 at some of the venues the app marks with a larger pin | Every clock-in that passes the checks above |
| Combo | +15 at your 2nd venue of the night, +30 at your 3rd, +50 at your 4th | Your first clock-in of the night at that venue |
| Event | 25 to 100, at venues with a larger pin only | You marked yourself Going before the event started and you clock in while it is on |
In MYSOVA's open-data venue snapshot of 20 October 2026, 2,215 of the 2,355 venues pay the standard 25, and 140 pay 50 or 100 [10].
Two rules cut the venue line:
- Coming back. A second clock-in at the same venue on the same night pays half the venue line, and no combo [1].
- A long night. From your 5th venue the venue line pays 0.7×, from your 7th 0.4×, and from your 9th 0.15× [1][3].
Staying longer
XP for time spent at a venue arrives when you clock out. You earn 10 XP after 15 minutes, 20 more at 30 minutes, 40 more at an hour and 80 more at two hours, so 150 XP in all for a two-hour stay [4][3]. If your phone shares its location as you clock out and you are more than 150 metres beyond the venue's radius, that clock-out pays no time-spent XP [4]. The app's advice is short: clock out when you leave [5].
The multipliers
Zones. MYSOVA has 17 zones. A clock-in inside one multiplies the venue line and the time-spent XP [1][4][7]:
- 1.5×: Mayfair, Shoreditch, Soho
- 1.4×: Brixton, Camden, Dalston
- 1.3×: Bermondsey, Clerkenwell, Islington, King's Cross, Peckham
- 1.2×: Elephant & Castle, Hackney, South Bank
- 1.1×: Canary Wharf, Kensington, Notting Hill
Outside the 17 zones, a clock-in earns no zone multiplier. The server reads the zone from your location when you clock in [2]. The zones page shows where each one runs.
Your plan. The app is free to download. Two paid plans multiply every line: Explorer by 1.5× and Icon by 2× [1][3].
XP Boosts. The in-app shop sells Boosts: 8 hours at 1.5× or 24 hours at 2×. A running Boost multiplies the venue and event lines again [1][8].
One night in Soho, worked through
Take a Free-plan member with no Boost, at venues with the standard pin, on a night with no events:
- First venue, in Soho. 25 XP × 1.5 for the zone = 37.5, which the server rounds to 38 XP [1].
- Two hours there, then clock out. 10 + 20 + 40 + 80 = 150, × 1.5 for the zone = 225 XP [4].
- Second venue, a short walk away, still in Soho. 38 XP for the venue line, plus the 2nd-venue combo of 15 = 53 XP [1].
That makes 316 XP by the time you reach the second bar, before any time you spend there. On the Icon plan the same three steps come to 630.
Where the XP goes
XP moves you through 99 levels, grouped into 10 ranks: Owlet, Local, Regular, Scene Maker, Night Owl, Pathfinder, Tastemaker, Phantom, Legend and SOVA. Level 99, Ultimate SOVA, takes 2,000,000 XP [9]. The levels page explains each rank, and the night passport page covers the record your clock-ins build.
