Shoreditch for a night out: the zone, the venue mix and the way home
By Pavel Vassiltsenko, founder ·
Short answer
Shoreditch is in London's fare Zone 1 [1]. MYSOVA draws it as one of the app's 17 zones, a patch just under a kilometre across with Shoreditch High Street station inside it, and a clock-in inside the zone earns 1.5× XP [2]. In MYSOVA's open-data venue snapshot, 40 venues sit inside the zone, and 22 of them are pubs or bars [3]. On Friday and Saturday nights, the Night Overground runs from Shoreditch High Street, and the Central line's Night Tube runs from Liverpool Street [1][4].
Is Shoreditch zone 1?
Yes. TfL lists Shoreditch High Street, Old Street and Liverpool Street as Zone 1 stations, and Hoxton, just north of the area, as Zone 1 and 2 [1]. TfL's fare zones set what you pay to travel. MYSOVA's zones are a separate map: areas where a clock-in in the app earns a multiplier.
Where the MYSOVA zone runs
The Shoreditch zone covers 0.74 square kilometres, about 950 metres from west to east and 970 metres from south to north [2]. Measured from its edge in a straight line [1][2]:
- Shoreditch High Street station sits inside the zone.
- Hoxton station is about 230 metres north of it.
- Old Street station is about 240 metres west of it.
- Liverpool Street's Underground station, for the Central line, is about 500 metres south of it.
The Old Street roundabout falls outside. In the snapshot, all 11 venues within 250 metres of Old Street station sit outside every MYSOVA zone, so a clock-in there earns no zone multiplier [2][3]. The 40 venues inside the zone spread over five postcode districts: 13 in E1, 12 in EC2A, 6 in E2, 4 in EC1V and 3 in N1, with 2 lacking a postcode in the data [3].
What kind of places are there?
MYSOVA gives each venue one category. Of the 40 venues inside the zone [3]:
| Category | Venues |
|---|---|
| Pub | 14 |
| Bar | 8 |
| Live music | 7 |
| Cocktail bar | 5 |
| Wine bar | 3 |
| Club | 2 |
| Lounge | 1 |
So the zone leans to pubs and bars: 22 of the 40, against 2 clubs. Live-music venues come third, with 7. Treat the table as a sample, because the snapshot only holds venues we can place from open map data [3]. The app's own catalogue holds more Shoreditch venues, and a venue placed in the wrong category would shift these counts. Whether that adds up to a good night out depends on what you are after. For a pub or a bar, the snapshot alone gives you 22 inside the zone. For a club, it shows two.
The Shoreditch zone page lists venues by name and category.
Getting home
Night Overground. On Friday and Saturday nights, the Windrush line runs a night service between Highbury & Islington and New Cross Gate. It stops at Shoreditch High Street and Hoxton, and its 13 stations include Dalston Junction, Whitechapel and Canada Water [4]. Night fares are always off-peak [5].
Night Tube. Old Street has no night trains. Its Northern line platforms are on the Bank branch, and the Northern line's night service runs only by the Charing Cross branch [4]. For the Night Tube, walk to Liverpool Street for the Central line, which runs between Ealing Broadway and Hainault or Loughton at night [4].
Night buses. Five night routes stop within about 450 metres of the zone's centre [6]:
| Route | End stops, as TfL names them |
|---|---|
| N8 | Great Titchfield Street / Oxford Circus and The Lowe |
| N26 | Victoria Station and Chingford Station |
| N55 | Great Titchfield Street / Oxford Circus and St Thomas of Canterbury Church |
| N205 | Paddington Station and Drapers Field |
| N242 | St Giles High Street and Homerton Hospital |

Cabs. The rules match the rest of London: hail only a black cab, and book any minicab in an app, by phone or at the operator's office. Our Soho guide sets out TfL's minicab rules in full [7].
Shoreditch on MYSOVA
MYSOVA is a London social passport: clock in at bars, pubs and clubs, earn XP and meet people where you go. Shoreditch carries the app's top zone multiplier, 1.5×, shared with Soho and Mayfair [2]. At most venues a clock-in on the Free plan starts from 25 XP, and the zone turns it into 38; the paid Explorer and Icon plans multiply it again. How clocking in and XP work covers the rest of the sum.
